This unique formulation has been effective in containing the rapid spread of malaria within the human body, which is a frequent cause of death in malaria-prone regions. This is particularly the case in rural areas where access to clinics is limited. A WHO-study has validated the use of Artesunate suppositories as a pre-referral treatment mechanism to prevent death in malaria cases (http://www.who.int/tdr/news/2010/rectal-artesunate-bmj-award/en/).
